Research shows that peer educators make a lasting impact in their communities. When students see and hear their peers presenting about social situations and pressures with confidence and knowledge, they listen.
The Peer Education Program, under the umbrella of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, was an evidence-informed program that equipped Santa Fe youth ages 14-18 with the knowledge and skills to serve as sexual health resources for their peers.
This unique leadership opportunity empowers youth to be agents of positive change for themselves, their peers, and their communities.
Students who were part of the program received stipends for their time. In addition to conducting trainings and educational sessions for their peers, students would also attend trainings alongside youth-serving health professionals.
