My love for nature sprouted in early childhood. Raised on an old family farm in the western foothills of Maine, I spent the majority of my time getting lost in the woods, backpacking with my family, and spending every warm, sunny day on the beach. Growing up in Maine taught me if you nurture mother nature, she'll nurture you right back. So I became her biggest cheerleader.
I was the first person in my family to attend college, which came with equal parts excitement and pressure, with a hefty price tag. After I completed my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Maine, I packed a few bags and drove my little rust-bucket car out west in search of my own manifest destiny. With no clear path in mind other than a vacant room I had planned to occupy at my uncle's house in San Francisco, I began my cross country, soul-searching road trip.
Halfway across the country, I stopped to visit a college friend in the heart of Texas. What started as a week long, pop-in visit turned into an extended stay.
So I did what any 20-something-year-old does: find a cheap room to rent and got to work. Since being a coach and mentor is in my blood, I found my way into public education teaching fine arts at a local elementary school. Working as a teacher was the stepping stone that led me to one of the most rewarding careers with one of the most widely-utilized public health organizations in the country.
Working as a Community Health Education Manager for Planned Parenthood was life changing. It helped me recognize the impact I created within my community; a feeling that has guided me ever since. I developed my skills as a leader and mentor and provided me the opportunity to find myself in the Land of Enchantment.
My time in New Mexico was both a gift and a test of perseverance. A small start-up company hired me to establish their programming and outreach department. Little did I know that Meow Wolf would become an international beacon in the arts and entertainment world. Meow Wolf expanded my creative skillset, allowed me the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, and continue my work as a social impact leader.
One global pandemic and two housing transitions later, I took on the role of working in City Government. Receiving a personal appointment from the Mayor of Albuquerque was certainly a square on my bingo card I wasn't expecting, but I leaned into it with full force. It allowed me to represent my LGBTQ+ community and dive deeper into what it means to be a social impact leader. Working together with a diverse and talented team, I led the marketing and communications strategy for the newly-formed Office of Equity & Inclusion and later for the Parks & Recreation department.
Similar to a game of spirograph, my professional career is multi-layered, intersectional, and oh-so-colorful. With over a decade of experience leading nonprofit organizations, public education, city government, and privately-owned corporations, I bring an eclectic mix of industry experience that manifests positive and innovative results.
